Recipient of a grant from the C\u00f4te-Nord Territorial Partnership Program of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec (CALQ) in 2025, Sarah F. Maloney presents the exhibition D\u00e9placer des montagnes (Moving Mountains) for the second time on the North Shore.<\/p>

This creative project takes a multidisciplinary approach and is intended to be a collaboration between the social sciences and the visual arts. By exploring the historical side of certain key locations in the region, such as Mont-Wright, historical texts paint a portrait of these places that shape the region’s socio-economic identity and accompany certain works also inspired by these iconic locations.<\/p>

All of the works presented are linked by the exploitation of the territory, an element that is central to the artist’s artistic approach. She uses materials such as OSB and iron ore. \u201cThrough my artistic practice, I want to transform the viewer’s perspective on the territory, its exploitation, and the objects found there.\u201d This exhibition project invites visitors to discover the North Shore by looking at its territory and industrial network in a different way. \u201cThis research is a way of presenting my interpretation of a collective identity specific to the territory and our interdependence with it. Through my works, I want to raise awareness of the precarious balance between consumption and the exploitation of mineral resources.\u201d<\/p>

Sarah F. Maloney (1987) is originally from Port-Cartier on the North Shore. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and Psychology at Concordia University in 2010 and obtained her Master’s degree from the Glasgow School of Arts in 2014. She has exhibited in Canada, Cyprus, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. Her work was featured at the Baie-St-Paul International Symposium in 2021 and at the MANIF d’art de Qu\u00e9bec in 2024. More recently, she participated in a research residency at Creative Gros Morne in 2024, and her work will be featured in solo exhibitions at Langage Plus in 2025. She has been teaching visual arts at C\u00e9gep de Sept-\u00celes since 2017.<\/p>
