Climatic Death exhibits the very latest works by Sorenson, in which he draws inspiration from the writings of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross and compares our reactions to climate change to our psychic reflexes in the face of death. According to Kübler-Ross, death triggers a series of five responses: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. While Sorenson decries these behaviours in the video installation for this exhibit, the paintings and printed works on the adjacent walls illustrate some of the human activities that have significantly contributed to recent climate meltdowns.
About Oli Sorenson
Oli Sorenson, born in Los Angeles, grew up in Montreal and established from 1999 to 2010 an international presence from London, England, where he gave his first audiovisual performances. The artist has since combined his visual practice with remix art to promote notions of sharing rather than ownership, which is how he comes to criticize capitalist societies, where profit takes precedence over the well-being of nature, to the point of posing an existential threat to Earth’s ecology.

On November 3, 2024, we had the pleasure of welcoming Oli Sorenson, who paid us a visit to conclude his exhibition of Climatic Death. We wish to thank everyone who took part in the creative workshop and in discussions with the artist.
