JOB TITLE: CO-HEAD OF THE STORE/CULTURAL MEDIATION
WORK LOCATION : Musée de la Côte-Nord

SALARY OFFERED : $20.32/hr and up, with experience, skills, and recognition of skills and qualifications.

SCHEDULE : Temporary part-time position, 3 to 4 days per week. Starting June 25th, 2025, Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 AM to 5 PM.

DURATION : 13 weeks, from Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day to Labour Day, with a possible early start and extension into autumn.

DUTIES
Collaborating with the head of the store and the education and cultural action officer, and under the supervision of the managing director, this role is responsible for responding to requests for room hire, helping prepare and host the Musée’s events, and managing part of the store’s operations.

CO-HEAD OF THE STORE
-Place orders, stock shelves, take inventory and monitor the store’s products; inform the administrative secretary of payments.

-Maintain relationships with the Côte-Nord’s artisans and promote their products to customers.

-Return consigned goods which generate little to no sales.

-Check cash register records and balance them for deposits.

-Collect admission fees from visitors and compile data.

-Attend work meetings about professional development, and about any problems or challenges encountered in the course of duties for this position.

-Carry out various related tasks to welcome visitors, ensure their comfort, ensure the store runs smoothly and keep the Musée clean and safe.

CULTURAL MEDIATION
Welcome visitors to the Musée according to the standards of an accredited museum institution.
Collaborating with the education officer, suggest, organize and host activities on the first Sunday of each month.
Organize and host activities related to cultural programming: exhibition openings, conferences, film screenings, creative workshops, etc.
Conduct guided tours of the permanent exhibition for school groups, travel groups and cruise lines.
Conduct guided tours of temporary exhibitions for school groups.

REQUIRED SKILLS
-Very good knowledge of French and English, both spoken and written.

-College degree in management, administration or history.

-Basic accounting skills are an asset.

-Familiarity with the Office suite.

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALITIES

-An interest in history, archaeology, arts and cultural items (artwork, historical artifacts, local produce, etc.).

-Knowledge of tourist attractions in the immediate region.

-Interpersonal skills, and ability to listen to customers and suppliers.

-Strong organizational skills and sense of initiative.

-Public speaking skills.

-Ability to work effectively in a team.

DESCRIPTION OF ONBOARDING, INITIAL TRAINING AND WORKPLACE SUPERVISION
The work of this role will be directly managed by the Musée’s managing director, the head of the store and the education and cultural action officer, who will ensure workplace preparedness, monitoring and quality of work throughout the contract period.
The job holder will also receive hands-on training that should enable them to provide a personalized welcome experience to visitors, manage store operations, and write attendance reports.

TRAINING OFFERED
Customer service (8 hours); event hosting techniques (8 hours); history of the Côte-Nord (3 hours); permanent exhibition hosting scenario in French and English (10 hours); temporary exhibition hosting scenario in French and English (5 hours)
