Fact or fiction:
Is the northern shrimp hermaphroditic?
Does the purple starfish secrete glue?
Can a frilled sea anemone create infinite clones of itself?
Are a lobster’s bladders in its head? So… Ordinary creatures or remarkable beings?
The Musée de la Côte-Nord will host the travelling exhibition called Remarkable Beings – When Science Rivals Fiction, produced by Exploramer, from October 28, 2023 to May 19, 2024.
The Musée de la Côte-Nord is very glad to host the first release of the Remarkable Beings – When Science Rivals Fiction exhibit, an opportunity to discover the sea creatures that inhabit the St. Lawrence River in a fun, interactive and accessible way. Professions and portraits of researchers in the field of marine biology are also exhibited. This will be an opportunity for students to get acquainted with the sciences and examine their career opportunities. Educational and cultural programming accompanies this exhibition, especially on November 5, the first Sunday of that month.
The St. Lawrence River, far from being a long, quiet river with its ice, great depths and darkness, is home to animal and plant species that display ingenuity in communicating, reproducing, feeding and moving around. Every day, scientists study how these species adapt in order to better understand and protect them, but also to draw inspiration from them to advance the fields of medicine, cosmetology and robotics.
Remarkable Beings – When Science Rivals Fiction introduces us to unsuspected phenomena and anecdotes (some of them juicy), which the species were kind enough to reveal to the researchers.
This travelling exhibition is produced in collaboration with Canadian Heritage, Réseau Québec maritime and the Cégep de Matane. Exploramer, a scientifically-focused museum located on the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts wharf, in Haute-Gaspésie, aims to raise public awareness of the need to preserve and recognize the St. Lawrence River’s marine environment in the wider environment. The Musée de la Côte-Nord will be the first to host this one-of-a-kind exhibition.
